2027 Honda Passport Trim Levels: Every Difference From RT-L to TrailSport Elite Blackout

Honda of Seattle · Seattle, WA

2027 Honda Passport Trim Levels: Every Difference From RT-L to TrailSport Elite Blackout

The 2027 Honda Passport comes in three trims: RT-L ($45,195), TrailSport ($49,995) and TrailSport Elite ($53,695). Two factory versions round out the lineup: the RT-L Towing adds a Class III hitch for +$700, and a Blackout package on the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite adds +$1,500. Every Passport shares a 280-hp 3.5-liter V6, 10-speed automatic, i-VTM4 all-wheel drive, a 5,000-lb tow rating and the full Honda Sensing suite. Stepping up to the TrailSport ($4,800 more) buys real trail hardware: 9.6 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch cameras and a factory hitch. The TrailSport Elite ($3,700 more) adds comfort: perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a 12-speaker Bose system and a hands-free liftgate.

In Seattle, the Passport trim question is about steep streets, tight parking and mountain weekends. Every trim has all-wheel drive and front and rear parking sensors. The TrailSport adds the clearance and tires for gravel forest roads in the Cascades.

Best value trim?
Our pick is the TrailSport. Its $4,800 premium over the RT-L covers a hitch ($700 on its own as the RT-L Towing), all-terrain tires, skid plates, TrailWatch, a moonroof and a heated wheel.
Do all trims have AWD?
Yes. i-VTM4 torque-vectoring all-wheel drive, Trail Torque Logic and seven drive modes are standard on every Passport.
Which trims include a hitch?
The RT-L Towing and all four TrailSport versions. Every Passport is rated for 5,000 lbs when properly equipped.
Which trims have real leather?
The RT-L and the TrailSport Elite. The TrailSport's seats are HondaTex synthetic leather with cloth.
What does Blackout add?
For $1,500: black 18-inch alloys, black Honda badges and black front and rear skid garnishes. Equipment is otherwise identical.
Which trim fits Seattle?
On pavement, including Snoqualmie Pass on I-90, the RT-L does everything you need. For the gravel stretch of the Mountain Loop Highway, step up to the TrailSport, and add the Elite for ventilated seats and Bose audio.

What Changes for the Worse as You Step Up

Moving up a trim isn't purely additive. Here's what changes for the worse, so there are no surprises after you sign.

RT-L to TrailSport

  • Leather. The RT-L's seats are leather-trimmed; the TrailSport's are HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth.
  • A gray cabin. The TrailSport comes in black only; the RT-L offers black or gray.
  • Mileage: 21 mpg combined drops to 20, and highway goes from 25 to 22 mpg.
  • Headroom: 1.4 in. less up front (39.1 vs. 40.5 in.) and 1.1 in. less in back, with passenger volume falling from 119.1 to 115.4 cu ft.
  • Departure angle: 25.3° on the TrailSport vs. 27.1° on the RT-L, even though approach angle and clearance improve.
  • Height: 74.5 in. vs. 73.1 in., which matters with a roof box or a low garage.
  • Tire speed rating: T-rated all-terrains (113T) instead of H-rated all-seasons (110H).
  • Weight: 198 lbs more (4,676 vs. 4,478 lbs).

TrailSport to TrailSport Elite

  • Orange ambient lighting. The Elite switches to white (it keeps the orange steering-wheel stitching).
  • Matte Shark Gray wheels, swapped for Berlina Black machine-face alloys.
  • 29 lbs of curb weight (4,705 vs. 4,676). Nothing functional is lost.

Standard to Blackout

  • The standard wheel finish. Blackout wheels are black alloys on both TrailSport trims.
  • $1,500, for appearance only. Capability and features don't change.

Trim vs. trim

The Five Passport Matchups Shoppers Ask About

RT-L vs. RT-L Towing

RT-L $45,195 vs. RT-L Towing $45,895

$700 buys the factory Class III hitch with harness and hitch panel. Both are rated for 5,000 lbs, but the rating assumes proper hitch equipment. Towing requires hitch equipment, and the Towing version has it from the factory. If you'll ever pull a trailer to Lake Washington or a campground, it's the simpler route.

RT-L Towing vs. TrailSport

RT-L Towing $45,895 vs. TrailSport $49,995

Both tow from the factory; $4,100 separates them. The TrailSport brings the off-road kit, a moonroof, a heated wheel and 115-volt power. The RT-L Towing keeps leather, a gray cabin option and 25 highway mpg.

TrailSport vs. TrailSport Elite

TrailSport $49,995 vs. TrailSport Elite $53,695

This $3,700 step buys comfort only: perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, Bose audio, a hands-free liftgate and rain-sensing wipers. Both have the same off-road hardware. If you spend hot afternoons in the car, the ventilated seats are the deciding feature.

TrailSport Blackout vs. TrailSport Elite

TrailSport Blackout $51,495 vs. TrailSport Elite $53,695

Only $2,200 apart, these are a style-versus-comfort decision. The Blackout gets the darker look; the Elite gets the comfort upgrades but keeps standard trim. You can have both in the Elite Blackout.

TrailSport Elite vs. Elite Blackout

TrailSport Elite $53,695 vs. TrailSport Elite Blackout $55,195

$1,500 for black wheels, black badges and black skid garnishes. The equipment list is otherwise identical, so this is purely about the look.

2027 vs. 2026

What Honda Changed for 2027

Higher TrailSport ride height

Honda reengineered the TrailSport suspension for 9.6 in. of ground clearance (8.3 in. on the RT-L) and better approach, breakover and departure angles.

A new TrailSport face

Bigger fender flares, a darker resculpted lower fascia, a reshaped front skid plate and amber LED hood lights.

More standard TrailSport equipment

TrailWatch and a heated steering wheel, previously TrailSport Elite features, are now standard on the TrailSport.

Darker Blackout

Black front and rear fascias join the Blackout package's black wheels and badges.

Smoke Blue Pearl

A new blue replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl on all trims.

Higher prices

MSRP is up $245 on the RT-L, $1,345 on the TrailSport and $1,045 on the TrailSport Elite.

Test drive

How to Test-Drive a Passport in Seattle

Book back-to-back drives and use these to compare trims on roads you actually drive.

  1. Merge onto I-5 or SR-520 and feel how the V6 and 10-speed pull. Set adaptive cruise and let it follow traffic.
  2. On a hot day, try the TrailSport Elite's ventilated seats against the TrailSport's HondaTex. It's the clearest way to judge that $3,700 step.
  3. Have us show you TrailWatch and the Multi-View cameras in the lot; they're most useful at tight trailheads and steep driveways.
  4. Fold the rear seat and load what you really carry. There's 44 cu ft behind the second row.
  5. Check your garage: the TrailSport is 74.5 in. tall, 1.4 in. taller than the RT-L.
  6. Pair your phone and sign into Google built-in before you leave the lot so you're testing your own maps and music.
  7. Towing? Bring your trailer's plug type. The TrailSport hitch has a 7-pin connector; check whether you'll need an adapter.
  8. If you can, take both trims toward Snoqualmie Pass on I-90. Listen for the difference between the RT-L's all-season tires and the TrailSport's all-terrains.
  9. Ride in the back of both trims. The TrailSport's moonroof trims rear headroom from 40.7 to 39.6 in.
