5 Perfect Day Trips You Can Take From Seattle, WA
October 19 2017 - doadmin
Man driving car through mountainsSeattle has plenty to do, but sometimes you just need some fresh air or want to explore a new city. Even if you only have a free Saturday or Sunday, you can make it happen. Here are five places in the Pacific Northwest that are perfect for day trips from Seattle.

Blake Island Marine State Park

Wake up early and plan a trip to Blake Island on Puget Sound. No public access is available, so you'll need to rent a motorboat, take a kayak, or book a spot on a private boat to get to the island. Alki Beach Park is a popular spot for departures by kayak. On the island, you can take a Tillicum Village tour to learn more about the area’s history. Birding, clamming, crabbing, biking, and hiking trails provide plenty to do until you head back to the city. Plan to travel about an hour to the island and back, though this may take more time depending on your mode of transportation and your point of departure.

Mt. Rainier National Park

Mount Rainier is an active volcano and an iconic part of the Washington landscape. It’s a popular destination for challenging hikes, rugged camping, and thrilling climbing if you aim to summit the peak. Check the National Park Service’s website for condition information and to confirm that you have the permits necessary before you set out for your trip. Mount Rainier National Park is approximately 1.5 hours by car from Seattle.

Olympic National Park

Olympic National Park is another excellent pick if you want to experience the vivid nature of the Seattle region. There are roughly a million acres to explore here, including 70 miles of wild coastline. Driving to the park will take about 2.75 hours, but you’ll also need to account for the time it takes to walk from your car to the trails you want to explore.

Vancouver, British Columbia

If you want an urban experience outside of Seattle, consider a short drive to one of the nearby hubs. If your passport is up to date, you can even make a trip across the border to see Vancouver. There you can visit the Vancouver Aquarium, peruse the Museum of Anthropology, and see all the gardens and scenery that has made this city such a popular destination. Vancouver is about 3 hours away by car, but remember to account for delays at the border.

Portland, Oregon

If you prefer to stay in the United States, consider visiting Portland. The city houses some fantastic attractions, such as the Lewis and Clark National and State Historical Parks, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, the Portland Art Museum, and the Oregon Zoo. Add one or more of these to your itinerary, stop for a delicious meal, and head back home to Seattle. Portland is roughly 3.25 hours away by car. The Pacific Northwest is full of beautiful scenery, and even an international trip is possible if you have time for a short drive there and back. Remember these destinations the next time you feel like getting out of Seattle for a day. Image via Pixabay
