September 07 2017 - doadmin
Scenic road with trees on both sidesWe all know that Seattle is jam-packed with a ton of entertainment. From art and culture to shopping and restaurants and everything in between, this city offers something for everyone. But did you know that Seattle is home to some breathtaking roads filled with scenic views of mountains and countryside? Whether you explore Puget Sound, the forest of the Cascades, or the backwoods of Snohomish County, a new road trip awaits you at every turn. Whether you're looking for a staycation or just need to get away from the stress of the city for a few hours, below we've compiled a list of some of the most scenic routes within 60 miles of Seattle. Read on to discover what adventure you should take.

1. I-90 to 18 East

If you're looking to escape from it all, driving to Snoqualmie Falls is for you. This 29-mile-long route will have you looking at splendid sights, big rock formations, and huge trees. Traveling down 18 East and Snoqualmie Parkway will lead visitors to the 2-acre park that's filled with an observation deck, gift shop, and a 270-foot-high waterfall. If you don't feel like driving back, there is available lodging at the Salish Lodge & Spa, located just down the road.

2. North Cascades Highway

It's on this 75-mile stretch of highway where you'll appreciate this scenic route. From breathtaking views of the mountains to electric blue glistening lakes, the North Cascades Highway tour won't disappoint. If you have some extra time on your hands, we recommend stopping to explore the historic structures near Diablo Lake and catch the sunset at Ladder Creek Falls.

3. U.S. 2 to Wallace Falls

Driving on U.S. 2 toward Gold Bar will lead drivers on a breathtaking adventure. Leading visitors right into Wallace Falls State Park, where a well-marked park trail will give you the best view of the 265-foot-high waterfall. While this hike will take about three hours, if you prefer to stay within the confines of your vehicle, the picturesque U.S. 2 route up to the North Cascades will more than suffice. Plus if you're hungry, we urge you to stop at Zeke's Drive-In for a delicious burger, fries, and ice cream shake — the perfect ending to any road trip.

4. Olympic Highway

This 264-mile circle of the Olympic Peninsula will lead road trippers to drive through mountains, ocean, sound, rain forest, and aging "Twilight" paraphernalia. If you're feeling really adventurous, driving uphill to Hurricane Ridge will lead you to the terrifying dirt Obstruction Point Road. For a more mountainous view, Crescent Lake will do the trick. While you will never leave Highway 101, you'll certainly travel through every ecosystem. Whichever road trip you decide to take, meandering through some of Seattle's most scenic countryside will lead you to some pretty incredible views. What adventure are you going to take this year?
