More than two decades after it was introduced to the United States, the Honda CR-V is still the most popular crossover SUV on the market. Drivers of all demographics love the CR-V, and they show it by making the CR-V the top seller year after year. Commuters enjoy the CR-V for its reliability and fuel economy while weekend adventurers love it for its size, strength and durability.
The Honda CR-V was first introduced as a concept in Japan, with the first official model year, the 1997 CR-V, beginning mass production in 1995.
What Does the Acronym Mean?
If you aren’t exactly sure what CR-V stands for, you are in good company.
According to Honda’s Japanese press information, the abbreviation stands for “Comfortable Runabout Vehicle.” However, sales literature from the carmaker in the UK has referred to it as a “Compact Recreational Vehicle,” while many know it as the “Civic Recreational Vehicle” based on its platform.
